Cispus Activities & Leave No Trace Principals

LEAVE NO TRACE PRINCIPALS

We encourage all our visitors to look into the seven principles of Leave No Trace. The first principle is “Plan Ahead & Prepare,” and we hope you will take the time to consider doing so in a way that keeps our beautiful outdoors intact and safe for generations.

Local Attractions

Layser Cave - A rare glimpse into the past - In 1982, Tim Layser discovered a hidden cave on Lone Tree Mountain during pre-work for a timber sale.  Now known as Layser Cave, it has become one of the oldest links to the past in the Cascade Mountains.  Artifacts left unscathed by looters revealed an untouched home from nearly 3,500 years ago.  To learn more, a small exhibit is held at the Cispus Learning Center for registered groups, and approximately 3.3 miles away is the trailhead entrance that offers an easy 1/4 mile round trip hike to the cave.

Angel Falls and Curtain Falls - Both Angel and Curtain Falls are located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  The West Fork of Covel Creek feeds both falls.  Angel Falls is approximately 175 ft. high and 25 ft. wide; the flow of Angel Falls varies.  Hike time to Angel Falls is about 60 minutes at a slow to medium pace from the Cispus Learning Center.  Along the way, you will pass by Curtain Falls, approximately 75 ft. high and 30 feet wide.  Curtain Falls is a unique walk-behind fall that takes about 30 minutes to hike from Cispus Learning Center.
